Workshop on Direct Methods in Champs-sur-Marne
Researchers from CAM took part in the 9th International Workshop on Direct Methods in Limit States of Structures and Materials, held on 14–15 September 2026 at Université Gustave Eiffel.
The workshop brought together researchers working on direct methods, shakedown and limit analysis, cyclic plasticity, and computational mechanics. CAM contributed two presentations to the program.
Reza Vafadari presented “Direct Shakedown Analysis of Orthotropic Materials: A Generalized Computational Framework”. The work develops a lower-bound shakedown framework for
orthotropic materials that accounts for directional stiffness, anisotropic yielding, material orientation, and multidimensional loading.
Lavakumar Veludandi presented “Multiscale Shakedown Analysis of Particle-Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites: An Adaptive Loading Domain Approach” . The contribution introduces an
adaptive strategy for constructing shakedown domains in multiscale analyses, with the aim of reducing the number of computationally expensive optimization problems while retaining the required resolution of the loading domain.
Prof. Jaan-Willem Simon also contributed to the workshop program by chairing several presentations and supporting the scientific discussions.
Beyond the talks, the workshop offered many opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues from different institutions, discuss current developments in direct methods, and identify new directions for future work in computational shakedown analysis.
We thank the organisers and all participants for the scientific exchange and the many interesting discussions throughout the workshop.
