In the project "Understanding and Predicting the Failure of Cellulosic Materials", fundamental questions about the mechanical mechanisms on the micro- and macrostructure of paper are being investigated

We are pleased to announce the approval of an international research project, which we will realise together with the Institute of Bioproducts and Paper Technology (IBP) at Graz University of Technology. Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), the project is entitled "Understanding and Predicting the Failure of Cellulosic Materials".

The research project aims to gain a better understanding of the complex interactions between the micro- and macrostructures of paper. The focus is on the following questions:

  • Which microstructural effects are decisive for the macroscopic material behaviour?
  • How do the resulting plasticity and damage phenomena interact on the macrostructure?
  • How can this interaction be investigated experimentally and integrated into a validated multiscale framework?

We are looking forward to the collaboration with Ulrich Hirn and Caterina Czibula from IBP!
